DEMO REEL

Breakdown

Beside You

A robot's human death.  A machine who finally goes beside its loved family once alive. Is it death, or birth of a being with dignity?

This personal project was created with Maya and Houdini, with compositing done with Nuke. Modeling of the robot and grave stones was done in Maya, along with the layout and grass field done in Houdini. The blooming flower growth effect, ground fog, and the head smoke effect were done in Houdini. The rendering was done with Karma Solaris.

Final Project

This is a model of my actual dad. He was one of the most important people who supported me as I was improving as a 3D artist. I wanted to create a portrait of him to keep as a memory that I can recall in the future.

Modeling was done with Maya and ZBrush, and texturing was done with Substance Painter. Grooming was done with Xgen.  The cloth was done in Marvelous Designer. It was rendered with Arnold and composited in Nuke.

Mr. Rabbit

I have been developing Mr. Rabbit for three years. The concept came from Asian tales in which there are rabbits endlessly making rice cakes on the moon. I thought, if there were rabbits on the other side of the moon we cannot see forming a society just like us, there could be a rabbit who always makes mistakes in this busy world like me. Lopped-eared bunnies are cute, but they are abnormal in the sense that their ears are the result of genetic mutation. This trait symbolizes young adults still struggling to find their place in the world

This original character was created with Maya, ZBrush, Houdini, and Substance 3D Painter. The basic shape was created in Maya and exported to ZBrush for sculpting simple muscle structures. Then, it was brought back into Maya for retopology and rigging. The cloth was created in Marvelous Designer and retopologized within the software for optimal cloth animation.

All the models were brought into Substance 3D Painter for UDIM-based texturing. Grooming and vellum hair simulation was done in Houdini. Rendering was done with Karma Solaris and composited in Nuke.

Textured

This was another variation design of Mr. Rabbit that I designed and created with Maya and Substance 3D Painter. I designed most of the parts based on old machines that I saw in museums or online.

Renaissance

To be born as something new, cracking the stereotypes we have, we often need to discard and destroy what we believe to be absolute truth, even the time we lived.

This personal project was created with Maya, Blender, Marvelous Designer, and Substance 3D painter. I modeled the environment and textured it with UDIMs first, then I started experimenting with Houdini and Maya. I was able to create similar effects with Houdini, but the optimization aspect for re-texturizing was better when I created the simulation in Maya with the nCloth system. Still, the scene was quite heavy for rendering at once with Arnold, so I needed to first layer things as foreground and background, create Arnold scene source files, and batch render them outside of Maya. I created the space background using Blender procedural volume shading, then composited everything in Nuke after rendering.
